Well I have very busy this past week and this week so I am glad for that but have been lagging on my posting (my blog coach would be unhappy).
This week I have been confronted with the Disease known as Depression.
Did you know that upwards of 15 million adults a year in the United States are diagnosed with a mood disorder each year; including depression, mood swings, bipolar and more.
Depression is defined as, “a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. These problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to substantial impairments in an individual’s ability to take care of his or her everyday responsibilities.” – World Health Organization.
There are plenty of stories and case studies far and wide about the use of chiropractic and aiding depression. It is a fact of life to say that when you feel good, you are less prone to be depressed. Here is an article published in the American Journal of Psychiatry that relates the uprising use of alternative therapies, including but not isolating chiropractic, in combating depression. This article also goes on to state that most of those who are receiving traditional mental health care are also using alternative measures on top of medical interventions to decrease depression.
Depression can affect any one at any time. When it occurs can depend on how you feel at any time in your life. It may be chemical imbalances, or emotional or even just psychological. Whatever the reason Simply Health Chiropractic can most often times help relieve symptoms of depression. How we do this is by removing any nerve irritations at the top of the neck. Did you know that the pituitary and other glands that release emotionally stimulating hormones and chemicals are controlled by the brain stem and nerves that exist and flow out of the top of the neck region. With a simple exam and a specialized set X-rays we can create an adjustment that is tailored to your specific anatomy without popping or cracking or rotating of the neck. By removing interferences found along nerves that communicate between the brain and emotionally stimulating tissues (like the pituitary) Simply Health Chiropractic can help you put the control of your emotions back in control.
