Well I am on track this week and decided to post my disease of the week. I have been racking my brain all week trying to come up with a good disease of the week but it wasn’t until last night that I made my decision.
This week lets explore the disease called Multiple Sclerosis.
I have been aware of the positive benefits of Upper Cervical Care in dealing with MS ever since I was in the student clinic at Palmer College of Chiropractic where I graduated from. It is interesting to note that MS is a disease process in which the body attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. There is a covering over some nerves usually referred to as a myelin sheath. This myelin covering allows for faster nerve conduction, when it is removed the speed at which the nerves can communicate is slowed dramatically. The MS disease uses the body’s own immune responses to attack the myelin coverings causing the symptoms of MS; which can vary depending on degree; here is a good site to read up on MS symptoms and more.
There has been some interesting findings when talking about MS lately. It is on the rise and as we have seen before some have linked the rise of MS to the use of Aspartame. Whatever the cause it is a not very nice disease.
Now in 2004 a correlation between head trauma and MS was established in this paper by E. Elster. She notes that certain types of trauma to the head (like whiplash) may be initial precedents upon which MS can propagate.
Elster goes on to note that those MS patients who were treated in the Upper Cervical (upper neck) area under Upper Cervical Chiropractic protocols (in this case International Upper Cervical protocols) had a 91% improvement in their symptoms. That is that 40 out of 44 patients reported improvement in their condition from Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care.
Now chiropractic has never been proven to cure or reverse the process of MS physiologically but many have felt a reduction in the amount of symptoms they experience when Upper Cervical Chiropractic practices have been used. Some have even reported these positive findings, here is one such posting and here is another with some more impressive findings.
What ever the cause it seems that Upper Cervical Chiropractic care has made some progress in reducing the symptoms of MS when properly removing the subluxated Upper Cervical Spine (upper neck area). There are some speculations on how the body is now able to cope with MS when the subluxation (nerve interference) is removed but the real research on why will have to wait for science to catch up.
Simply Health Chiropractic is an Upper Cervical Chiropractic Clinic. We specialize in using the Blair Specific Upper Cervical Technique to remove the subluxation and subsequent nerve interference in the upper neck area.
